📖 Who We Are

A bakery born from a passion for real bread

Golden Crust was founded in 2009 by Clara and James Webb, a couple who fell in love over a shared sourdough starter during a bakery course in the Dordogne. Returning to London, they set up a small wood-fired oven in a Bermondsey railway arch and began selling loaves to their neighbours.

Fifteen years on, our little arch has grown into a proper bakery — but the soul remains the same. We still use wild yeast, long cold ferments, stoneground British flours, and proper butter. No shortcuts, no additives, no nonsense.

Every morning at 4 am, our bakers arrive to begin the day’s work. By the time you walk through our door, the air already smells of warm crust and fresh coffee. That’s the promise we make to Bermondsey every single day.
